Ann Curry

Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has reported on wars and natural disasters for over 45 years, focuses on the human suffering suffered by people living in these regions. Curry has reported on wars all over the globe, and has reported on conflicts in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Curry's mother was Japanese American and her U.S. Navy-sailor father played prominent roles in her life. Her mother was working with the father of her parents in Japan in the aftermath of World War II. The family was frequently moving due to her dad's military service. The family eventually arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. Following her graduation from the University of Oregon, Curry earned a bachelor of journalism degree in the year 1978. She was exposed to a variety of cultures and experiences during her growing up years is likely to have influenced the compassion with which she approaches issues of international significance. Ashland was her final high school. Her first job could lead to a successful job by becoming an intern at broadcasting station KTVL Channel 10 Medford. It was her first time as a female news anchor at this station, at age 22. Then, she was anchor and reporter at KGW located in Portland Oregon. After four years, she was appointed a reporter by KCBS TV which is located in Los Angeles. Through her tenure of six years with the channel she was awarded the award of two Emmy Awards.
